Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Very rich, plummy nose, quite oaky. Massive, lush, and opulent, still with firm tannins, but they’re balanced by good acidity. There’s not just concentration here but a remarkable breadth and weight of black fruits. Big and brawny, yet it doesn’t lack some elegance and drive—and while clearly powerful, there’s no heat, though the alcohol does give some sweetness on the finish. Long 18
Alex Hunt: A dense nose, combining forest fruit, savory/rocky notes, and subtle oak. It doesn’t leap from the glass but is already showing signs of evolution, so it’s a little hard to read in terms of its potential for further development. The palate is not archetypal Zinfandel in that it is more linear, mineral, and tightly tannic than many examples of the variety, lacking that easygoing juiciness. However, it is well balanced and convincing in its expression of this tauter style 15
