Nicolas Belfrage: Quite deep. Medium concentration, with a few rough edges that could iron out given time. For the moment, the charm of sweet fruit is partially negated by bitter tannins, but there is time for improvement in bottle. Drink from 2016. 15.5
Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to tawny rim. A touch closed on the black-and-red-fruit nose, with rosemary, almonds, and hints of cedarwood and cloves. Full body, with huge tannins and sweet cherry fruit; long; clean, floral finish. Big Barolo for aging. 18
Andrew Jefford: Very dense black red; almost opaque. Sweet, slightly mint-toffee nose; maybe it will clear with time, but it’s just not what you want to smell in a glass of Barolo. To be fair, there is a compost of fruit beneath, but even that is a little pruney. On the palate, this is a very thrusting wine; there are tannins, and the fruit commands the core, but it’s a slightly jostling mixture. Good things here, in sum, but my judgment is slightly reserved on the wine settling down a little and finding a grace of articulacy that eludes it at present. 15
