Andrew Jefford: Saturated deep black-red. Hmm… a slightly strange wine. The fruit is a little confit cherry and soft raisin; and there is a strange, dark, beef-stock note to the nose, too. The overall effect is rather exotic and kinky, but unclassical in this year when “classical” is generally a term of the highest praise. On the palate, it is soft, lush, agreeably tannic, without a trace of herbaceousness, a wager taken to the limit, but… the fruit to me tastes of a very late harvest, or of some sort of a fight with the weather which in the end wasn’t won: very ripe plums and rotty medlars. A strange, faintly decadent Oscar Wilde-like Pontet-Canet that would be best drunk young, while its extravagant lushness is still agreeable. 2018–22. 87
Michael Schuster: Both sweetly ripe and faintly “leafy” so smell; rich, generous, juicy, firmly tannic; both sweet and brisk to taste at once, ripe fruit and just-ripe fruit; but this is warm, generous, pure, and satisfying, if still with plenty of tannin to absorb; good, attractively chewy, needing time. 2022–35+. 91
