SB | Restrained nose, with a slight earthiness. The attack is lean and rather phenolic, with a light earthy character rather than persistence of fruit. One-dimensional and rather charmless, it doesn't seem hugely ripe, and the finish has a grapefruity character. Sound, but it doesn't give great pleasure and seems fully ready to drink. There's ample acidity here, but also a hint of greenness that suggests it won't improve much, if at all. 85
AJ | Still mid-gold; not exaggeratedly deep. Some quite interesting evolution here: beeswax and sun-warmed wooden furniture; honeycomb; and some autumn fruits, too. An intriguing, inviting nose on this six-year-old, and a wine that underscores the worth of a little age. Some use of oak here, surely? Or is it just the age massaging the fruits this way and that? Deep, round, mellow, complex, and secondary. Lots of bright apple, lemon, and grape, with a kind of honeyed echo to it; sustained, structuring acidity; and the more burnished flavors that have come with handling and bottle age. Fine layers and intrigue here; almost the truffley note that locals often find in sweeter Jurancon. Complex and very good, and the aging a success for me. Stephan Reinhardt has requested a second bottle... which seems even better to me and totally delicious. My initial descriptive notes stand but I am upping the score. 93
SR | Golden-yellow in color, this 2017 Jurançon sec opens with a clear, intense, and almost baroque (or rather rococo) bouquet of fully ripe, yellow-fleshed fruits, including dried fruits such as dates, and hints of honey. On the palate, this is a very elegant, refined, and refreshing, pure, savory, and vital dry Jurançon, with a clear fruit, stimulating citrus-fruit aromas, and a vibrantly fresh and saline finish. The aftertaste is intense, showing a tightly woven and finessed Jurançon that, in a very surprising way, is even reminiscent of Côte des Blancs Champagne. Pretty unique in style. 92
