SB | Muted stone-fruits nose. Suave and juicy, this has an immediate upfront appeal. The acidity is modest, but this isn't Jurancon, and the fruit retains some clarity. It's not a great wine, but a reasonably successful expression of a gently sweet style, despite a slight clagginess on the finish, a reflection of its moderate acidity and length. 87
AJ | Pale and bright gold, with silver glints at this stage. Tight and taut, with lots of grapey sweetness. Not yet allusive. Very good on the palate, though: a big draught of lemon-and-pineapple purity, with lovely acidity to clean and chase the sweetness, which is generous. It has the overall soft charm of Pacherenc (to compare with the brighter focus and more martial balances of Jurancon); it's clean, bright, and pristine, and will age well. What's not to like? 90
SR | This 2021 Pacherenc displays an intense lemon color and opens with a concentrated but pure, fresh and saline bouquet of healthy shriveled berries and flinty scented notes of pineapples, crushed stone (say slate and I would believe it) and hints of iodine. Lush and refined on the palate, this is a generous but saline, finessed and stimulatingly bitter-finishing sweet wine, with an elegant and precise fruit, grapefruit and caramel bitters on the finish. Remarkable tension and really promising, with spearmint notes on the aftertaste. 92
