SF | Open , forward, mineral-scented, honest; an archetypical Durfort in other words! Dense colour and aromas of blue and red fruit, hints of tobacco and forest floor. Structurally the wine is impressive, the very refreshing acidity giving an immediate lift and sharing a spirit of joie de vivre. Margaux should taste like this, no matter how warm the year and one really does feel the redemptive balm of the cooler nights on this wine, the proximity to the soil and a respect for the natural cycles which are so important to sound out vintage variation. 94
MS | Relatively closed, discreet, subtle, gently gravelly to smell; medium full, fresh to lively in acidity, finely firm in tannin, a slightly more austere expression of the year. Freshly ripe to taste, mineral backed, long, sapid, complex, and gravelly in aromas, and with excellent fruit-cored persistence. For all its touch of austerity in the vintage, this is subtle and classy, a very fine, long-term, lean-limbed Margaux. Needs a decade at least, will be very satisfying. Drink Dates: 2034 - 2054+. 93
