Roc de Cambes Cotes de Bourg Bordeaux France 2019 (14.5% ABV) — 90.7
SF | Fulsome hue, but a little reduction.....behind that a symphony of herbs, burnt fruit and elegant chalky tannins, sublimely well orchestrated and precise in its elaboration, the acidity forthright through the ensemble, the tannins neatly observed and the fruit ripe but not intrusively so, thereby assuaging a capacity to develop pleasingly... 91
AJ | Dark black-red. Ultra-ripeness, but very attractive here as it so often is, without raisiny exaggeration. Fleshy, broad, almost secondary already: relaxed and open, but suggestively articulate. Plump, mellow, open, almost splayed, sweet as the flesh of the earth is sweet, and not at all sucrous: sensational tannins knit it all together; gorgeously sensual fruits, too. Totally unZeitgeisty; sensationally good. Just go there for the pleasure of going there. And it shows what you can achieve if you break all the rules. (I remember Jancis used to serve this and if any of you ever come across a "less Jancis" wine than this, let me know.)Drink Dates: 2024 - 2034. 91
MS | Richly ripe, subtle and complex and savoury to smell – individual, grapey, distinctive! Full, fresh, concentrated, firmly tannic; an abundance of ripe fruit within a firmly, drily, tannic frame; savoury, tasty, with a nice length of flavour for the appellation, modest complexity, and good, light length. A very ripe, fairly tannic style, both firm and fine. Unlikely ever to be mellow and silky, but this will offer plenty of sap and sinew satisfaction. Leave, nonetheless, for several years. Drink Dates: 2028 - 2038+. 90
