Nicolas Belfrage: Medium-deep. Hay and sottobosco on the nose; hesitant to come through. Tsipras wouldn’t like the palate: austerity (in the tannic sense). Plenty of good quality fruit but not a lot of charm. But Giovanni Conterno used to say that when his wine was first bottled it should be “undrinkable.” This is undrinkable now, but try it again in 2020. 89

Bruno Besa: Ruby to garnet. Open, salty nose with small red fruits and crushed stones. Mint and violets, with great complexity and refinement. Sweet red fruit is what you get first, followed by noble tannins and small red fruits. Long and mineral. A wine that demands at least another five years of aging. 94

Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red. A slightly muddled aromatic profile compared to the best-organized of its peers, but with many good things hidden inside: warm red fruits, the autumn leaf pile, the plowed field, and some sweet floral notes, too. Soft, full, firmly structured, mellow withal (very 2011, that). Lots to enjoy inside this well-made, firmly stated, and classical Serralunga. 86
