BUY THE WINE

Alison Buchanan: Rather extraordinary red-wine nose, coffee- and vanilla-rich. The palate, like the nose, is extremely unusual, with sweet dried fruit and citrus—all the right ingredients but in such an unrecognizable order that this does not say PX to me. A burst of apricot on the finish. 14.5

Jesús Barquín: Deep mahogany, almost black. Echoes of [Toro Albalá Don PX 1979], if displaying better overall quality: intense nose, vinous, complex, and medicinal, suggesting it has been blended with Amontillado. The palate confirms this impression: tapenade and moderate sweetness. It could do with more liveliness and class on the finish. 13.5

Julian Jeffs: Deep color. Unusual nose, with a touch of orange, which was even more evident in the mouth. 10
