Simon Field: Amber laced with green, the nose ripe with unusual fruit associations; banana and strawberry are unlikely descriptors… Unusually, the sweetness is poorly integrated and rather overbearing. Where the acidity has been undermined, the whole pack of cards tumbles… 12

Richard Mayson: Mid-amber; clean, not very expressive pruney aromas. Soft, sweet, and raisiny; rich, quite concentrated, hint of molasses, verging on cloying with a savory sweet finish. Enjoyable but lacks the character of fine Madeira. 14

Margaret Rand: Round, rich, quite sweet, and with some Madeira tang. It’s authentic but it’s also quite commonplace. A good mid-morning accompaniment to what the English call Madeira cake and what the Madeirans, I believe, call English cake. Sound and warming. 14.5
