Bruno Besa: Garnet to tawny. Refined and complex on the nose, with an open, spicy character, cedar wood, prunes, plums, almonds, mint, and forest floor. Medium to full body, with lively acidity, fine tannins, fresh herbs, and a long, slightly simple finish. 90
Andrew Jefford: Dark, clear black-red. Surely some mixed ripeness here, but nonetheless exciting, perfumed, convincing, arresting, with plenty of aromatic energy from crushed pine needles, to raisin and plum jam. Quite exciting on the palate, too, within a relatively dry upper register. Don’t look for fat fruit here, but if you want something shapely and thrusting, with ample aromatic interest, this is a good wine with lots to give. I wouldn’t cellar it for a decade, however. 90
Michael Palij: Slightly muted nose of black fruit, including plum and cherry, but here overlaid with a gamey, savory note. There’s a silkiness to the fruit here, but the wood-derived tannins are proving too much for the fruit and the wine remains unbalanced on the palate, with insufficient weight to balance the polyphenols. 90
