Andrew Jefford: Appearance: Pale, clear red. Aroma: Open, billowing raspberry perfumes of great purity and intrinsic sweetness. There’s some ballast (a sense of crushed pips shadowing the fruit), but overall this is light and festive. Flavor: Intense, bright, and sprightly, once again with a polished sheen of raspberry. The tannins are very soft and supple (more so than in ’03), upholstered with glycerous sweetness. Pure, light, and perfumed in the early part of the palate, full of feathery fairground fruit, then as it settles in the mouth you begin to see the flesh emerge from beneath the feathers… and eventually the veins that line the flesh. Licorice on the afterbreath. A dancing Echézeaux, full of almost unexpected charm, dissolving on the tongue. 16
Michael Schuster: Terrific scent of richly, fully, yet freshly ripe fruit, with the merest suggestion of new wood—what promise! Discreetly concentrated, medium-full impression, silky tannins, fresh acidity; lovely sweetness of fruit, great purity of flavor, very long across the palate, with beautiful, gently mouth-coating, fragrant length. Perfect balance, it seems, of ripe fruit, vital acidity, and refined tannins. A beauty and a great Echézeaux. Huge smiling charm and seductiveness—a glowing start to this tasting . Likely to be accessible early. 2012–30+. 17/17.5
