Andrew Jefford: Saturated purple-black. Another hummingbird nose: a kind of susurration of red fruits. Just a little bit sweaty, but we don’t mind that down here at all. Smooth, long, deep, dark; more black fruit than red fruit on the palate. Vivid and satisfying but not quite the explosive astonishment of the best of the old-vine cohort. Slightly dry tannins at the end. 15
Simon Larkin : Slightly whiffy, stewy aromas. On the palate, the wine lacks volume and poise. Notes of sour morello cherry abound and create the impression of a disjointed wine. There is an angularity on show here that doesn’t impress. Heady, some astringency, without any great expression or poise. This loses its way. 11
John Livingstone-Learmonth: Dark robe; crunchy, nutty, dark-fruited, somewhat baked bouquet that is swept with herbs such as rosemary, and an intrinsic oiliness from the southern sun. There is appealing purity in the fruit aroma. A wee note of reduction exists—can be decanted, thus. This expresses dark fruits, a plump sphere of enjoyable, cooked fruits that have a winning mix between succulence and grip, freshness. Provides late, darker, more tar, dryness, and tang, mineral moments. All set to show terroir and vintage in good synchronization. From 2016 to 2028/30. 16.5
