Jesús Barquín: Though drinkable, this wine is oxidized, especially the nose. It may be this particular bottle only, but there is no backup. 11
Nicolas Belfrage: Medium depth. Mature but livelier, more youthful than [Nicolis Ambrosan Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2005]. Equally well made and similar comments apply, though this is more of modern style. 16
Andrew Jefford: Saturated deep black-red; still, remarkably, opaque. Warm, savory, secondary, open, gratifying. Once again, all the early-life cherry and plum has slipped into the background; instead, there’s a wall of earthy, savory, meaty, fungal prominence on the aromas. Indeed, this wine almost smells undergrowthy. Very European! You wouldn’t find this anywhere in the southern hemisphere. On the palate, this wine is vivid and full but doesn’t have the depth, focus, and tenacity of the best. It is, nonetheless, concentrated and serious: a worthy contender, with plenty of extractive force. At its peak, or very near it. 16
