Stephen Brook: Straw. A lot of sulfur (which slowly diminishes) on the nose, which is floral and discreet, with appley aromas. Lean attack, with high acidity for Viognier, suggesting a fairly early harvest. A bit too restrained, without the characteristic lushness and opulence of Viognier. The acidity does give some length, but it’s still austere. 14
Alex Hunt: For me, this has quintessential Viognier aromas—the whole apricot, skin and kernel included—backed up by discreetly heady notes of summer flowers and hay. Oak is present but sensitively deployed. The palate shows typical lushness in the middle, with reasonably perky acidity for the variety. The finish gets a bit loose and alcoholic, dissolving to flavors of amaretto cream. 15
Andrew Jefford: Mid-depth of steel gold. Diagnostic honeysuckle and nougat scents, and with the volume knob in just the right position: not too insistent but not overly discreet either (one doesn’t open a bottle of Viognier for aromatic discretion). Oranges and vanilla behind. Rich, full, unctuous, and tongue-coating, with a cascade of scented exoticism. Low acidity, though not absent; evident warmth of alcohol entwined with the wine’s vinosity. Gratifying and beguiling. A sense of finishing sweetness without actual sweetness. Superb. 18
