Stephen Brook: Straw. Heady peach-and-tropical-fruit nose, with some talc aromas, too. Rich, broad, a touch heavy and leaden, since the acidity is low and deprives the palate of some lift and liveliness. Solid and rather dull, though it doesn’t lack fruit. Fairly short. 12.5
Alex Hunt: There is not a lot of Viognier character here—more a generically aromatic nose flattened by some cardboard aromas. The palate is simple and apple-juicy, with suspiciously marked acidity. Pretty workmanlike stuff. 12.5
Andrew Jefford: Bright gold. A slightly sullen, moody aromatic profile—maybe a little bit reduced? Anyway, it doesn’t really achieve full floral or stone-fruit liftoff, though I will go back in a few minutes to have another look. On the palate, this is quite acidic but has plenty of creamy depths, too; there is fair aromatic resource to the palate, with plenty of honeysuckle. A little bit controlled and designed? But perhaps I’m carping. As a Viognier, it does exactly what you expect. I’m just bothered by all that acidity in place of the nutty glycerol and richness I hope for. (The aromas do freshen up after a while.) 13.5
