BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Quite deep, with beginnings of turn. Herbal, almost medicinal hit on nose: has character. Medicinal character (not negative) repeated on palate with distinct bitter quinine-like twist at back. Ripe, round, and concentrated, this is a wine of character, not to all tastes but it should please its followers now and for a few years. 16

Bruno Besa: Ruby to garnet rim. Restrained almost nutty nose, with smoke, small red fruits, and a touch of sage and cinnamon. Medium-to-full body, with great compact red-and-black-fruit palate well balanced by the refined tannins. Long and clean. 17.5

Stephen Brook: Deep to very deep red. Toasty nose, with oak rather too dominant now. But there’s ample underlying black fruits. Rich and plump, a full-bodied juicy style, with lavish black fruits, that suggests a good dose of Merlot or other non-local varieties, but it has some freshness and drive and is well balanced, if lacking some cut. 16.5
