Simon Field | First bottle: Deeper in color than its sibling, a hint of barley. Persistent, engaging bubbles. Nose more extravagantly oaky: vanillin, dried apricot, and a hint of nutmeg. The palate is a little dusty, musculature edging out elegance of intent. Powerful and robust, its adolescent swagger in all likelihood to be moderated over time. Second bottle: Lighter in color, less evolved but still temperamentally generous. The fruit definition is clearer, the mid-palate especially. More by way of stone-fruit tension and acidic grip. The score ascends in deference to the ethereal quality of the wine, so cruelly hidden in the first instance... More to give, for sure. | 94
Anthony Rose | Mid-gold in color, this cuvée has sweetly spicy aromas of grilled nuts, honeycomb, and smoke. It’s full-bodied and vinous to the taste, a concentrated, winey fizz, very Pinot Noir, extremely fresh and full of vigor. The nutty notes are reprised to complement the rich apple-pie and stone-fruit flavors, whose sweetness turns saline and dry on the finish, making it a balanced and mouthwatering wine with bubbles. | 93
