Simon Field | Obsidian hue, the rim hardly evidenced. Nose of camphor, Everton mints, and woodsmoke, maybe a forest murmur behind that, with iodine and cassis both referenced. A powerful and assertive style, the acidity buttressing the spirit with no lack of vim and vigor. Unrelentingly powerful; this definitely needs time. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Saturated dense black-red with a clinging, purple meniscus. Slightly raw (first bottle), but the second bottle is the same. It’s possible, actually, that that rawness is an indication of its qualities, since there is a huge amount in here: powerful black fruits, mint and camphor, herbs and cistus, tar and stone, all crushed and pummeled and compounded. Give it time. On the palate, it is rich, exuberant and rounded, with less tannic power and concentration than many of its peers in this vintage and perhaps a little less aromatic detail than I had surmised. Very good nonetheless. | 92
Richard Mayson | Unattractive angular, wet wood nose, both bottles similar. A little better on the palate: some berry fruit, but hollow, with a raw green character underlying, leaving a green, chaffy finish. Simple. | 79
