Tim Atkin | Earthy, forest-floor aromas. Lots of color, firm tannins, and marked acidity. Meaty and complex. Dry and a little chewy. May come together in bottle. Full-bodied and ripe. | 91
Simon Field | Raw purple; pale rim. A hint of reduction on the nose, engine oil almost; charcoal and hearthside; behind that, myrtle, plum, and hints of stewed tea. Structurally, the wine impresses, a balustrade of finely wrought tannins, serviced to enhance rather than conceal the fruit character but eschewing the temptations of overindulgence. A hint of briary, sea salt even at the finish, lends interest to an already interesting piece of work. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dark purple-red. Bottle 1: Corked. Bottle 2: Lots of wood dries the aromatic profile, but you sense that the fruit is trying to break free. On the palate, this is relatively deep-fruited, though held in check by slightly raw oak. The tannins come across as dry and obtruding at this stage, though it would be different with food. Not wholly successful for me, but there are good things in here, and I don’t rule out improvements and a higher score with time. | 86
