Simon Field | Bright, for all the saturated profundity of the purple hue. Nose of cassis, woodsmoke, bilberry, and newly polished leather, suede, too, maybe; attractive. Lovely, elegant mid-palate; there is jambon cru, a hint of briary, a touch of salinity, gunpowder, and lanolin. Unnervingly complex, it is fair to say. Pleasing length and a resourceful mid-palate power that fails to belie an impressive potential. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dark, dense black-red, still opaque at the core. Fresh black fruits, earth, and coal: A classic Cahors nose at mid-life. Clean, fresh, and good. That’s exactly what you find on the palate. This isn’t a wine that is trying to shoot the roof off, but it offers the classic Cahors combination of freshness and density, of wild plum fruits and of dark earth and coal complexities in drinkable and accessible guise. | 90
Anthony Rose | Vivid in color, the aromas are nicely done here, dark fruit overlaid by a stylish veneer of oak, seemingly part French, part American, as there’s a charring that works well, combining with a dark cherry fruit richness whose supple juicy texture is complemented by mouthwatering, savory elements and firm grip, resulting in a well-balanced, serious, and thoroughly appealing drink for all occasions. | 92
