Simon Field | Ruby de profundis in color. The slightly challenging nose recalls dried grass, nutmeg, and hints of lanolin—the challenges of early middle age. Volatility and a drying finish challenge the ensemble and therewith a recognition that this is a swan song—in key, but not to be revisited. | 86
Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red, though now translucent. The fruits here are simple and the wine seems to be tiring a bit. It’s clean, oaked, and sweet but lacks purity and refinement. On the palate, it is very vivid, lively, and pure, with better refinement than the nose suggested. There’s ample acidity here, giving a sour-cherry style; firm tannins. A good wine, in sum; with more aromatic refinement, it would have won a higher score. | 90
Anthony Rose | Still relatively bright and youthful in color, with a distinct ruby tinge to it despite its maturity. This smells and tastes very fresh for its age, a delightful cherry-sweet fruitiness now supple in texture and in no way dominated by the elements of tannin or alcohol that might otherwise vitiate what is a thoroughly charming and hugely enjoyable wine. Veering from sweetly rich to savory, it has elements of complexity that make it so enjoyable. | 94
