Andrew Jefford | Dark, saturated red-black, still opaque. Ample spicy wood, with black fruits beneath: ample ripeness for the vintage. Fruits are more plum than currant, and there is even a hint of soft, sweet prune. Mouth-filling by dint of wealth of fruit rather than texture and structure, this satisfying wine is one of the most richly constituted among its peers in this vintage—yet the natural poise and lift of Pessac-Léognan is respected. Vivid, round-contoured; fine drinking over the next decade. | 90
Michael Schuster | Gently oaky, both red- and black-fruit ripe to smell, minerally too; ample in the context of 2017, fresh in acidity, firmly but finely dry in tannin. Sweetly ripe and round in fruit within a gently grippy texture, moderately complex, and with good length. Less generous than usual, but the refinement and quality are there. Its slight austerity suggests at least a five- to six-year wait, though I would want more. I suspect it will be fine and stylish given sufficient time. 2027–40+. | 91
