Andrew Jefford | Very dark black-red, and still opaque at the core. Rather livid, simple fruits: cooked cherry and ripe plum. Yes, ample ripeness, but the fresh fruit finesse of the vintages has disappeared somewhere (though I guess it may be a stage). Edgy, sharp, and brisk, in contrast to the nose, and while the concentration is adequate, the style and finesse of the fruits leave something to be desired. Michael Schuster | Dry to smell, and with a fruit that is parched by its wood treatment, so this tastes brief and pinched. Difficult to know what to make of it. Some fruit persistence, so an underlying fruit quality is there, but essentially, in this vintage, only fans of new oak need apply! I am not sure what happened here this year. If Prieuré-Lichine is often a bit oak-dry for my taste, it is also usually stylish, elegant, and harmonious. I have no idea how to score this, in its very particular style, so will abstain!
