Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red, and now just off opaque. Lots of spiced refinement, but not the power of perfumed fruit we have seen in recent years. Finely crafted, nonetheless, with its dried orange peel, glove leather, and suede. So elegant, the wines of this property! Smooth, pure, balanced, harmonious, and poised. Indeed, it is so silkily drinkable at this stage that you are liable to overlook its complexity and detail. They are there in the palate just as they are in the aromas, and those levels of nuance almost eclipse the drivingly cool fruit style of the vintage, which is less wounding and invasive here than elsewhere. This is fine wine, even if it doesn’t quite have the articulacy, warmth, and voice of a great vintage. (Some pointedness and abruptness on the finish, too.) | 92
Michael Schuster | Closed to smell at the moment; this is medium-full, fresh in acidity, finely dry in tannin; Margaux-elegant and refined, with real finesse and delicacy of flavor, sweetness and length; a little “dry” for the present, but this will ease and relax with time, and it has a lovely fragrant aftertaste. Beautiful Margaux in the making, another fine 2017, with the purity and transparency of fruit that characterizes many of the best of the year. Drinkable now, but years to go. Now to 2037+. | 92
