Andrew Jefford | Full mid-gold. Vivid, fresh, something a little funky here—another low-sulfur wine? Unproblematic if so, but I miss the aromatic in a different style... One is peering behind the bruised apple to see the honey and the almond and the apricot. Fresh, vivid, lively: well-made wine in this style, and good quality raw materials, too. But here’s the thing: All of the charm and enticement of St-Péray lies in its aromatic nuance, its luscious inflections, and this is a pure, deep wine in which those things have no place. I can’t find them, anyway. It’s still an excellent wine, but it’s not quite what I hope for when I buy St-Péray. | 90
