Stephen Brook | The nose is very subdued, with light stone fruits lurking. The attack is supple rather than energetic, and the texture suave. There’s decent fruit here, if not much lift or personality. Low acidity gives a blunt finish, and there’s little charm, though the silkiness is appealing. | 87
Simon Field | Straw lemon; pallor at the rim. Aromatics focus on pears, plums, and preserved lemons, hints of sourdough and just ripe fig behind that. The palate is broad and indulgent, Marsanne in its youthful pomp, just a touch dusty behind the strut. A pleasing tapered finish and the faintest hint of bracken and briary at the stern. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Bright lively pale gold. Honeyed, full, rich, and beckoning. Sappy depths, but plenty of cream and wealth, too. Firmly fresh. Not hugely allusive but stylistically everything one could want. On the palate, this is lively, pure, primary; I sense low sulfur, but there has been no topple into oxidation. Very pure and lifted, and this may be the one for you if you don’t like Northern Rhône whites when they get too ripe. Juicy and fresh. St-Péray with a glimpse of St-Joseph (a spoonful of granite)—that’s how it comes across. | 90
