Andrew Jefford | Very deep, saturated purple-black red, out to purple-scarlet at the rim. Warm, glowing red and black-plum fruits: round, full, pastille-like, and sweet-toned. This sweetness owes little to oak and everything to finely judged harvest ripeness; some milk chocolate and tobacco behind. The wine is lively, fresh, vivid, and vivacious on the palate, with a much brighter acid balance than either the sweetness of the nose or the long-term reputation of the property might suggest. This is a relatively delicate wine in terms of weight and amplitude, but has arresting purity and depth of fruit. It’s when the fruit is in the mouth, indeed, that you notice its full aromatic finesse. Like Hosanna in Pomerol, this may appeal as much to Burgundy lovers as to Bordeaux fans. | 93
Michael Schuster | Cassis and blackberry sweet to smell, under a subtle oak-cedar on the nose; rich and fleshy and tannic; deep and sweet and savory to taste within its firm tannic frame, long and complex and very persistent to finish. Fine, typically powerful La Mondotte, but finesse and subtlety there behind the force. Long-term. 2032–50+. | 93
