Michael Schuster | The is the first vintage of this second wine of Cos d’Estournel Blanc, a selection of the harvest from the same (top-grafted on Cabernet Sauvignon roots) 35-year-old Sauvignon Blanc and 20-year-old Semillon as the grand vin, on vineyards cooled by their proximity to the waters and breezes of the Gironde estuary. Cedary oak-kissed grapefruit and guava Sauvignon nose; full-bodied wine with a vigorous acidity; ripe, generous, vital, juicy, sapid, and satisfying, with a good length of flavor and excellent, vibrant persistence. Not the density and breadth of the grand vin, but remarkable all the same, in vigor especially, for a dry white from the Médoc. And, of course, a flattering vintage in which to debut. 2021–25+.
