Michael Schuster | Only 30% of the harvest is an historic low in terms of selection for the grand vin, while 80% Cabernet Sauvignon is an historic high (it represents 67% of plantings in the vineyard) —and the resultant quality is clear. A dense, raw-blackcurrant and mineral nose; a rich wine with a crisply defining acidity and a fine, firm, long-term tannic frame; plenty of matter here, but in an effortless way, this is deep, long, and compact, subtly blackcurrant Cabernet in flavor, marked by fine Médoc gravel aromas, mouthcoating yet very St-Julien in its sense of restraint, with a great length of flavor, complex, refined, very subtle, very persistent to finish; a most complete, long-term, classy, classic. A wonderfully polished Lagrange of great scope. The best to date? Which will require, but reward a long wait. 2035–55+.
