Simon Field | Amber gold, maybe a touch cloudy; from the more elegant end of the spectrum, graceful and refined. Maybe lacking, however, that almost Calvinistic tension between all that seems bad and all that is good, a tension that informs the very best examples with no lack of rigor. | 87
Andrew Jefford | Bright full-gold now. Warm, sweet, grainy, mellow, creamy, and expressive, this is a very lovely aromatic profile: great sensual appeal and harmony on offer. Absolute purity and great subtlety, too; I could sniff this for minutes on end. Age vindicated! And the perfect wine to serve at some triumphant stage in a grand dinner. Savory and mushroomy: one of those rare wines that really can summon up an entire landscape in a single sniff. Very subtle but not a single false note anywhere. (False notes will always be found out when you age Vin Jaune.) On the palate, this is concentrated, long, a touch raw (cooking apples as well as dessert apples), but satisfyingly savory, too. It’s concentrated, balanced, and poised. | 92
Roy Richards | Creamy and nutty, straw, oxidation integrated rather than dominant. All that the nose promises is fulfilled by the palate. Refinement and grace. A very good example. | 96
