Simon Field | A little mute at the moment, its saturnine inclinations veiled by alcohol and extraction. Hard to read, and little discernible redemption evidenced from the location itself. | 87
Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red; very nearly opaque. Earthy, dark, forceful, and full; brooding fruits, pressed plants, crushed stone. Some mint and pine, too. This is already richly aromatic, yet you have the sense that it has much more up its sleeve for later. Concentrated, deft, and lively on the palate, with much more acidity than the aromas sketched out, though ample tannins, too. That acidity gives the core of fruit (both red and black here) drive and energy. There’s a weighty, savory, long finish packed with aromatic force. Again, time is needed here. Few French appellations can match Gigondas for endowing Grenache with liveliness and energy of this sort, though some may find the menthol notes that come with the whole-bunch perhaps too dominant. | 92
David Williams | Big, young, dense, forceful, and tightly packed on the nose, with a slick of very pure and fragrant raspberry fruit, but there’s energy, stoniness, and life here, as well as that sense of reflected warmth from evening stone. Intense and ageworthy. | 91
