BUY THE WINE

Simon Field | Light in color, with aromas of forest floor, briary, and hints of tangerine. Surprisingly tannic yet with acidity born out of altitude; a lift on the finish and a generous lick of white pepper to underscore potential. | 87

Andrew Jefford | Bright strawberry red, and almost a deep rose. The aromas here are savory and a touch funky or grunty, without the fruit lift of some of the other wines from this source. Very good on the palate nonetheless: less perfumed than [the Daniel Gomez Jimenez-Landi Las Uvas de la Ira El Real de San Vicente] but with more structure, depth, drive, grip, and length. These wines really are the missing link in some wacky imaginative way between Burgundy and Barolo: super-aerial yet firmly tannic at the same time, but without the acidity of either—yet you don’t miss the acidity because the aerial perfumes and the firmness of the tannins does the job of both. And all to the credit of Garnacha! | 90

David Williams | Reduction, and a rather soupy feel to the palate. Something a bit pinched, too, the tannins surfacing and dominating any fruit character. | 85
