Simon Field | Dense core, darkly uncompromising; a nose of power and extraction, the darkest cherries from the medieval tapestry, momento mori. Here all is tension and fiercely uncomplicated pleasure, spicy oak thrown in to bolster the dynamic. Hedonistic, in other words, its winemaking squaring up nicely to what appears to be high-quality fruit. Handle with care! | 91

Andrew Jefford | Deep, dark though not opaque black-red. Some sweetness, but also a slightly reductive sweaty hint and some varnishy oak. Deep and full but spoiled by those slightly varnishy notes and some yogurty, lactic-style acidity. Lacks purity and finesse. | 79

David Williams | A sweet kiss of coconut and vanilla oak puts the frosting on a boldly ripe style that retains a certain energy and keenness: something of Alta Expression Rioja about it, but it’s not syrupy, and there’s no lack of drinkability. | 89
