Andrew Jefford: Clear, deep black-red. Warm, sweet, but a little soupy in style: lush strawberry and plum fruit liberally sprinkled with milk-chocolate buttons. Almost a seaweed note, too. Gentle, enticing, and gratifying on its own terms, though; it’s not hard to take pleasure in this aromatic profile. On the palate, this is very ripe, to the extent that we almost seem to have left Pinot behind and find ourselves heading toward a kind of Grenache-like ideal. There is of course supporting acidity, and there is some firm tannin, too, so I don’t want to suggest that we have moved outside the range of Alsace Pinot Noir expectations, but the late-harvest unctuousness of this Pinot won’t be to everyone’s taste. I enjoy it hugely; the wine is balanced nonetheless; it is pure, sustained, long, resonant, and gratifying. It is made from very fine raw materials, and is pure, long, and takes all the scrutiny you’d like to give it. If you can just keep your aesthetic parameters wide enough, there is a huge amount to relish here. | 91
Jasper Morris: A medium-deep color, retaining freshness. The nose vibrates with a classy, juicy, lively raspberry note. There is a wealth of clean pure fruit on the palate—another success for a producer who has not tried to extract too much. There is a delicious perfumed aftertaste. This is in a great place now and should continue to keep for a year or two. I am quite excited by the finish of this wine. Smart work! | 91
Catherine Petrie: Medium-ruby. The wine’s aromas are flattering and appealing in their upfront charm. Sweet pomegranate, molasses, and rose-petal scents on the nose are followed by a body with powdery tannins and medium weight. A light tug of vegetal freshness pulls the wine back on the finish. | 87
