Andrew Jefford: This is a deeply hued wine, though there is a sense of maturation also; no bricking, but the red has lost its primary glow. Warm and soft-contoured in aroma; pleasant enough rather than exquisite. On the palate, the concentration and gathered force of the wine surprises, as does its overall wealth and amplitude: outstanding cropping here, from what must be very well-tended vines. It’s quite a sturdy wine and most Pinot-lovers would be hoping for a little more aromatic enchantment, but in other respects this is a great red Sancerre for a winter’s night, and in pure satisfaction levels it over-delivers. Very impressive, and I sense that whoever made this has even better in store for us in the years to come. Very much the Côte de Nuits end of things in the Sancerre context. | 91
Jasper Morris: One of only two Menetou-Salons in the tasting and it makes me feel keen to explore further. Full medium dark red, this is perhaps the most attractively perfumed of the 2015s. Delicious aromatics which follow through on the palate, uncomplicated but lifted with some savory sandalwood touches that might come from the barrel. Other wines may fill the mouth more, but this is in the right style to optimize the fruit. | 89
Catherine Petrie: Medium garnet with a pale rim. Simple red fruit on the nose that feels a little dusty and smudged compared to the zippy clarity of others in the flight. But the palate has a good concentration of acidity and chalky tannins, although the fruit falls way a little too quickly on the finish. | 85
