BUY THE WINE

Bruno Besa | Ruby to pink rim. Open, slightly vegetal nose, yet complex and mineral, with small red fruits, road tar, and an intense herbal character. Full body, with big, exuberant tannins, sweet red fruit, but a touch dry on the finish. | 90

Andrew Jefford | Clear, translucent black-red. Not very refined aromas; I’m tempted to write “a muddle of fruits.” Though fruits there are, happily: ample simple appeal. This is a concentrated, fast-driving, relatively smooth-textured wine, with lovely ripeness to it; and on the palate, too, there is no sense of muddle to the fruits, as there was in the aroma—they are smooth, ripe, urbane, glowing, almost brandied at the finish. Appetizing, accessible, and digestible. Yet another wine from this vintage that clusters at around the 87–88–89-point level as defined on the WFW scale—and it’s worth saying in reference to that that readers shouldn’t be dissuaded from buying 2015 at the right price. There is much drinking pleasure to be had here. | 87

Michael Palij | Another lovely nose, with the inestimable Serralunga character encompassing a panoply of aromas including blueberry, black plum, raisin, pomegranate, and cedar. The fine tannins, however, dominate this wine and render the bright fruit note somewhat redundant. | 91
