Stephen Brook | As always, such a contrast with Coutet, down the road in Barsac. There’s citrus and quince on the nose, which is far from opulent, at least now. On the palate, there’s an intense but not excessive sweetness and a sumptuousness held in check. It’s far tauter than Cypres, and perhaps less expressive now. Climens doesn’t like to be rushed, and this will gently unfurl over the years, gaining in complexity and finesse. Terrific now, but it would be a shame to drink this too young. Very long. | 96
Andrew Jefford | Mid- to deepening gold. Ample oak over exotic fruits (mango and guava), with some perfumed moss and orchard fruits, too (apple, pear, and quince). On the palate, this is bright, deep, searching, and long, with admirable concentration and poise. Perhaps it is a little bit less sweet in sugar terms than Coutet, but everything that is in here is realized with unrivaled precision and pungent concentration. Just at the start of its journey, but a long road ahead. | 92
