Simon Field: Deep purple, forward and immediately seductive; black olive, violets, and blackberry; sweet and soft, but is it too soft at such a tender age? Maybe; definitely a feminine style, hard to dislike in such stentorian company, but, for all that, one for the mid- rather than longer term. An ingenue with golden locks. | 90
Andrew Jefford: Saturated, dark black-red, though the glints that fall down the glass are a little more translucent than some; warm, sweet, floral scents in which pretty sweet blackcurrant is framed by spring flowers and fruit blossom. That profile is exactly what the palate delivers, in the end: choice, sumptuous, deliciously fruity, succulent, trembling, and comely Vintage Port, with lots of floral freshness and charm just now. The tannins are not ferocious—but they are there, ample and supportive. (This is a vintage that enables excellence to be expressed in so many different styles—which is not the least of its virtues.) Just gorgeous fruits here, and a truly great mid- term choice. | 93
Richard Mayson: Deep and dense; big though still unyielding on the nose, deep, dark-cherry and dark-chocolate character, with much more still to give; full and voluptuous initially, super-ripe cherry fruit, with tannins massing above like cumulus clouds on a hot summer’s day; big, broad finish, with the purity of the fruit showing though. Lovely wine for the long term. | 96
