To truly master anything, one must first understand the source, the origin, the starting point—where does it all begin?
Perhaps the most obvious subject matter to discuss this around is the world of wine.
“No wine qualification alone, be it WSET, the Court of Master Sommeliers program, Wine Scholar Guild, or any other, can provide the perspective and understanding that a single day’s visit to any terroir-driven winery can gift you,” boldly claims Nicolas Laguette, Director of Wines at ATMOSPHERE CORE; “you could be at the very beginning of your journey in wine, and one visit to the right winery has the ability to spark a remarkable career in wine hospitality,” he concludes.
ATMOSPHERE CORE is a hospitality management company with a portfolio of nine resorts under three brands operating out of the Maldives—COLOURS OF OBLU proposing modern and design-driven holiday experiences; classic island getaways under ATMOSPHERE HOTELS & RESORTS; uber-luxury indulgence offered by THE OZEN COLLECTION.
Driven by “Joy Of Giving”, the guiding value by which all resorts under the ATMOSPHERE CORE umbrella operate, the company offers visiting guests an award-wining and extensive all-inclusive wine program across all its Maldives establishments.
“Given our group-wide annual consumption of 400,000 bottles of wines & champagnes, we import all our bottles ourselves, directly from the wineries and exclusively for the supply to our own resorts only. We have established precise partnerships with terroir producers from around the world who help us build our in-house wine culture through exposure – that makes us truly unique” explains Nicolas. “we don’t sell wine, we simply pour to each and every guest, so storytelling becomes a vital element of our guests’ wine journeys with us in paradise.”

In March 2023, the standout winery in the Canary Islands and exclusive to THE OZEN COLLECTION, Bodegas Viñátigo, fully sponsored seven service colleagues from the beverage and culinary teams at the resorts; this was the catalyst to ATMOSPHERE CORE’s success in revolutionizing wine tourism in the Maldives.
“In the north-coast of Tenerife, I saw one vine which is 200 plus years old and growing straight from the volcanic landslide eruption, and still it’s alive producing the grape—it’s unbelievable,” tells Manak Raj, Cluster Wine Operations Manager at ATMOSPHERE CORE, who attended the first resort colleagues wine expedition to Tenerife.
Since then, and including the three wine expeditions being carried out this June 2025 in Champagne Guy Charbaut (France), Tenerife’s Bodegas Viñátigo (Canary Islands), and Bodegas Martín Códax of Rías Baixas (Spain), ATMOSPHERE CORE will have sent a total of 39 resort colleagues to seven different wine expeditions, in less than three years.
All the participating colleagues within the resorts become true wine storytellers for the guests as they have visited the vineyards, wineries and regions themselves and bring back memories to share. These wine expeditions are authentic gastronomic experiences and immersive wine training journeys, all designed to empower the colleagues in enhancing the guest experience.
