World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2025: Little Nell and Park Hotel Vossevangen on top of the world at The Savoy

The stars of the hospitality world converged on London on Monday to honor the best places in the world to drink wine.

By David Williams

The World of Fine Wine has unveiled the winners of the prestigious World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2025 at a glittering event at London’s The Savoy Hotel.

A packed house of expectant international guests representing the crème de la crème of the global hospitality sector made the journey to the historic London venue, where they were hosted for dinner at a new-look, expanded ceremony by WFW editor and World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2025 chairman Neil Beckett and WFW food editor and World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2025 judge Francis Percival.

The starry cast of winners was led by The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado, which took both the coveted overall Wine List of the Year title and the Best Hotel Wine List of the Year, while Park Hotel Vossevangen beat off strong competition to retain its position at the top of The Champions’ League competition reserved for previous Wine List of the Year winners: The Norwegian luxury hotel picked up both The Champions’ League Best Overall Wine List 2025 and The Champions’ League Wine-by-the-Glass List 2025.

It was a particularly successful year for venues in the United States. Establishments from the country picked up a remarkable ten awards in the main competition, as well as two top prizes in the Champions’ League and numerous runners-up spots, while New York cemented its place as the most-awarded city, with three Global Category winners (Kru, Brooklyn for Best Micro Wine List; One White Street for Best Half-Bottle List; and Sushi Nakazawa for Best Sake List (Outside Japan)) to go with a pair of runners-up prizes.

Sydney also flourished with two Global Category winners for the Australian city: Shell House took the Best Medium-Sized Wine List (fewer than 500 wines) and The Wine Bar at The International picked up the Best Short Wine List (fewer than 250 wines).

But the uniquely international focus of the World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2025 meant there were victories for establishments from five continents, and runners-up from six, with notable achievements including a pair of Swiss winners (Einstein Gourmet, St Gallen, for Best Large-Format Wine List and Wunderbrunnen, Opfikon, for Best Dessert & Fortified Wine List) and a triumph in the hotly contested Best Long Wine List (more than 500 wines) category for Blue Penny Cellar, Constance Belle Mare Plage, Poste de Flacq, Mauritius.

Guiding Spirit Awards for Wine in Hospitality

The night concluded with the presentation of the inaugural Guiding Spirit Awards for Wine in Hospitality. Conceived as a way of recognizing the outstanding achievements and influence of prominent individuals from the world of wine hospitality, the Guiding Spirit Awards for Wine in Hospitality 2025, sponsored by T-Oinos, were awarded to Harald Bresselschmidt chef and owner of Aubergine Restaurant in Cape Town, Doug Govan of Victory Hotel, Sellicks Hill, South Australia, HO Kin Fung of Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant in Singapore, leading sommelier and natural wine advocate Pascaline Lepeltier, Valeria Mortara of Anchoita Restaurant in Buenos Aires, and Josep Roca, head sommelier of three Michelin-starred restaurant El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Catalonia.

“I’m very proud to have received this honor and recognition. It’s important for us—El Celler de Can Roca—but also for me,” Roca told WFW after receiving his award from Percival. “It’s not just about the tangibles,” Roca added, “it’s about recognizing the emotional importance behind the wines and also the vines.”

As well as the category and Guiding Spirit awards, representatives from 15 establishments collected special Jury Prizes at The Savoy. The prize were awarded, in the words of Neil Beckett, “for all-round excellence, for an outstanding offering in one or more areas, for originality or literary flair, for representing remarkable value, for reflecting the guiding personality or philosophy behind the list with exceptional clarity, or for being a very close runner-up in one of the regional categories.” In the next stage of the competition, in November, hundreds of establishments around the world will discover if they’ve been awarded three-star, two-star, or one-star awards.

The World’s Best Wine Lists Awards is a global awards program created in 2014 by the multi-award-winning publication The World of Fine Wine.

Judged according to a rigorous protocol by independent, international panels of leading professionals, including World Champion Sommeliers, Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, and highly respected wine writers, it is the first awards program to acknowledge the crucial importance of a good wine selection—regardless of size—in the modern dining experience all round the world.
