Simon Field: Benchmark in virtually every respect; young, of course, precocious, I am sure; deep saturated purple, then winning aromatics, dark fruit strewn across the spectrum. Herbs, leather, and forest floor; the most engaging of the 2011s already boast unnerving complexity, above and beyond their raw, magisterial power. Great intensity on the finish, which somehow does not burn. A very fine example. Let’s see... | 90
Andrew Jefford: Saturatedly deep black-red; very mentholly and herbaceous aromas, for some reason. More tobacco-like after five or so minutes in the glass. Combined with the muted black-currant and black-plum fruits, though, this is not unattractive, though perhaps a bit developed for a 2011 in 2018 (which is when we are tasting). The palate is broadly similar: plenty to get stuck into, but a lack of precision and purity in the notes and allusions. | 84
Richard Mayson: Deep, dark, and closed in on the nose, sullen and not giving much away, though the underlying intensity is all there; lovely, soft, supple berry fruit combined with massively broad, ripe tannins, which subside slowly on the finish to reveal the most wonderful purity, poise, and finesse. This has it all for a long future. | 96
