Simon Field: Very imposing yet somewhat unformed aromas, almost as if it has been taken straight from the cask; poised, almost prickly, tannins and a cassis undertow—neither aspiring to conceal youth, for better or for worse. | 87
Andrew Jefford: Saturated, dense black-red. Lively and fresh, with lots of crunchy blackcurrant cassis, dried orange peel and perfume grasses: like a fine Cologne. Very fresh in Vintage Port terms; indeed, that perfumed freshness almost leads you to think of carbonic maceration (slightly simple). The fruit on the palate is also rather simple, and the tannins are very hard and dry, so the results are a bit violent and overly contrastive, with a very biting finish. | 84
Richard Mayson: Another intensely deep black 2007, withathin crimson rim; closed on the nose but with underlying focus and purity of fruit, blackcurrant, elderflower, well defined and quite winey; tight- knit, with great fruit purity underlying, focused with fine-grained but slightly green tannins and a long, linear finish. Wonderful. Needs time. 2028–60+. | 92
