Simon Field: Wine-dark color, uncompromised by the temporal interval; firm at the rim, blue at the mizzen; classic aromatic of gum cistus and violet, behind that woodsmoke and herbs; the palate has a grand and eloquent structure, Palladian and poised; tannins are ripe yet mature and the buttressing acidity is finely integrated. Chalky at the end game, yet refreshing and poised; cerebral and therefore thought-provoking—a more than pleasing example. | 95
Andrew Jefford: Dark red with some black, though no longer opaque. Firm, forthright plum, blackcurrant, and blackberry fruits with a meaty seriousness to them. Harmonious and settled aromas nonetheless. Generously concentrated in the mouth, and in character very much what the aromas had suggested: black fruits now tamed by time and given plenty of meaty complexities and stony depths. You feel the whole vineyard is here, not just the berries. The tannins are just palpable, but overall it’s now a smooth experience. Satisfying and classic. | 90
Richard Mayson: Deep, still opaque and youthful in color; lovely, forthcoming, opulent aromas, ripe plummy fruit withatouch of dark-chocolate intensity, still youthful with more to give; rich and opulent on the palate, ripe fruit backed by broad, ripe tannins leading to a powerful, strapping finish, fresh and vigorous. Gorgeous now but better still in five years, with a long life ahead. | 96
