Stephen Brook | Rich apple-compote nose. Broad and juicy, this is close to overripe, but there’s enough acidity to balance the very ripe fruit. Indeed, that tangy, saline character rushes to the surface on the finish and gives the wine its character, intensity, and finesse. Dry, stony finish, but some alcohol showing there. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Light to mid-pale gold. Clean, earthy, almost spicy, with some aromatic sweetness and richness, and a straw-byre, countryside note, too. This is the most richly flavored of the wines grown on silex/clay, and it has ample complexities but somehow the seed and straw style of the richness doesn’t quite work as well with the intrinsic acidic thrust of the wine as do the very different complexities we see with the wines on limestone. It’s a little brittle and dry, in the final analysis, though concentrated, intriguing, and characterful. | 87
Stephan Reinhardt | This aromatic and concentrated nose seems quite mature. The palate is rich and powerful, somewhat mature and oaky, and very firm due to its tannins. | 88
