Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red. Oaky and ripe, full of sweet charm, though little that could either be described as “fruity” or “fresh”—so if that is what you want from ’14, look elsewhere. This has ample summer- day warmth. Sweet and luscious on the palate, with some chocolate flavors and much riper and more generous tannins than in most of the wines you’ll find in this vintage. Bravo for the ripeness. I guess the vintage can be construed from the fact that this Roc de Cambes is a little shorter than in some others, but the style is what aficionados have come to expect. 2018–23. | 89
Michael Schuster | A fine, subtle, faintly “gamey” ripe Merlot- dominated nose; rich middleweight, fresh and finely tannic; ripe, warm, ample wine, generous, fleshy, succulent, seductive, moderately complex, and with a very nice length. Deliciously fine Côtes de Bourg! Very drinkable already, but this will keep and reward for years. Now to 2035+. | 90
