Simon Field | An elagant magenta hue and fascinating notes of walnut, bayleaf, cinnamon, and pine all evidenced. A little “lift” but not in a pejorative sense. Forest floor, gently milky, whispily aspirational; satisfying, rounded, and versatile. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Clear, deep black-red. Sweetly oaky, with slightly prune-like fruit in the background; resinous, too. A showy scent. Less fresh and pure than [Domaine Legrand La Chaintrée Saumur-Champigny 2010] but not unattractive either, and obviously ambitious. Sweet at first, then just a little grassy and fresh behind; a slightly puzzling combination. The wine does, though, have some depth, density, and flamboyance for its region; indeed, it’s almost fleshy, even though there is a green tone to that fleshiness. Lots of efforts here. | 87
Charles Metcalfe | This is still dominated by oaky aromas. The palate is oaky as well, with firm tannins, good acidity, and fruit behind but under the thrall of the oak. If it’s this oaky after seven years, it’s never really going to integrate. But it’s a pleasant drink if you like oaky wine. | 83
