BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve | Generous and fleshy, with an aromatic profile that seems more focused on chocolate than freshness. The wine is, however, worthy of this cru. | 93

Michael Schuster | Dense, ripe, fresh, and mineral to smell; persistent, very faintly raisiny at the moment; rich, vital, finely and firmly tannic; freshly sweet to taste, a touch oak-dry from the new-wood sample, prolonged, pure, subtly juicy, and aromatically complex; transparent, very fine- textured, and with a lovely aromatic persistence. Under the new management of Aymeric de Gironde (former general manager at Cos d’Estournel), 2017 Troplong has become a less obviously powerful wine (the vineyard’s location makes for a natural power today anyway), a more restrained, less new-oak- marked expression of its terroir than in recent years, with a clearer mineral element and freshness to taste. Full of new promise. 2029–40+. | 93–95
