Bruno Besa | Deep core to garnet rim. Complex, deep, mature black-cherry nose, a touch closed, with smoked meat and violets. Bright acidity, big tannins, and a long, clean finish. Very young Barolo that needs time to show its best. | 93
Stephen Brook | Elegant nose, very floral, with intense red fruits. Supple attack, but it’s concentrated and has good depth of fruit, with firm tannins supporting it. But marred by high alcohol, which gives excessive warmth to the finish. I’d give it the benefit of the doubt, because there’s sufficient fruit to keep it succulent and vivacious. Dynamic and long. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Clear, light red. Cherry and pomegranate fruits, with ample sweetness and some fine leather complexities. Attractive, mature, evolved aromas. After some time in the glass, though, the aromas lose their subtlety and come to seem a bit tanky and coarse-grained, though articulate. Some mint and camphor later, too. On the palate, this is a severe and grippy wine whose assertive, bitter- edged tannins eclipse the sweetness of the fruit. It would be good with food, and probably needs time, but it’s a little bit forbidding now. | 89
