Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: All the samples we tasted led us to the same conclusion: even at this stage in its development, this has to be one of the most resounding successes of the vintage. Dense colour, remarkably thoroughbred nose, with complex notes of cedar and tobacco to rival the fabulously elegant aromas of a first growth. The body has more density and harmony than any of the fifth growths – and we know how good they are this year! The finish goes on forever, supported by blue-blooded tannins that seem like a cross between the Lafite and the Mouton. Our congratulations! 18.5
Margaret Rand: Plenty of tannin balanced by some very within a fine, slightly oak-dry tannin. Sweet-fruited, fine-grained, complex and long across the palate and finish. Elegant and classy, one of the most refined Pontet-Canets for a very long time. New wood on this sample a bit dry, but the quality of the fruit shines through. First-rate Pontet-Canet. 16/16.5 pretty fruit. The finish is good and long. 16
Michael Schuster: Very ripe blackberry fruit on the nose – sweet, oaky. Rich, supple, succulent wine
